Gym owner and International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) pro Mark Goetz coached the team along with Global Bodybuilding Organization (GBO) pro Kristi Soltysiak.

Of the four contestants, Dezaray Ellis was the only one who had previously competed in the show. The other three hit the stage for the first time.

Owner of 3B Beers, Brats & Burgers, David Dulcie, took home first place in Men’s Classic Physique, Open Class B. Dulcie’s fiancée, Whitney Johnson, plans to compete for the first time on June 3, in the Natural Fit Federation, which is an all-natural and drug-free bodybuilding organization that promotes natural bodybuilding competitions.

Per the NFF website, the NFF Bodybuilding Division criteria include a balanced and proportioned physique from the left to the right side, and top to bottom. No one body part should overpower the rest of the physique.

Lisa Andersen, who serves as public relations and community education director for the Glen Rose Medical Center and liaison for the Dr. Roger E. Marks Foundation, won second place in the Bikini Competition for Masters 50+.

Ellis won third place in Figure, Open Class A.

And the committee awarded Tyler Hunt third place in the Men’s Classic Physique competition for Novice Class C.

“Bikini is a toned look with some definition,” Goetz said about the difference in the physical requirements in each competition. “But there is no clear separation between the muscles, definitely no striations visible, but you should have some separation in the glutes, hamstrings, and shoulders. With Figure, you need to be a little bit leaner; you should have separation in the muscle groups, maybe some striation, but not as much as in Physique. The hard part as a competitor is that each judge has a different viewpoint of who best represents those requirements.”

Now that Dulcie and Andersen both placed in the top two in their class, they qualify to compete in a national show.

“If they win their class at Nationals,” said Radonna Goetz, Mark’s wife. “Then they earn their IFBB Pro card just as Mark did in 2021. Texas has not hosted a National show in several years. However, they brought one back to Texas, and we now have a National show coming up on Dec. 8 and 9 in Irving. I know David will be working toward this show. I do not know what Lisa’s intentions are at this time.”

“By the way, what David is doing is completely insane,” Mark said. “His very first show he wins Open and qualifies for a national show. It took me 10 years.”

“There’s a definite natural and genetic factor (for David),” Soltysiak said. “But he’s also disciplined and did the work.”

The two coaches began to realize six weeks ahead of the competition that Dulcie had a real shot to win it all.

“His body structure, his symmetry, his balance between his muscle groups, and his ability to diet efficiently all contributed to his success,” Mark said. “He got down to 4% body fat in the end.”

And the coaches say everyone on the team was phenomenal, especially regarding their commitment and discipline.

In March, Radonna and Mark brought in IFBB Pro Sheilahe “Flexxy” Brown, a fitness consultant and Battle of Texas promotor, to assist the contestants with posing and routines.

“This was my first time coaching three first-time competitors at the same time,” Mark said. “But the experience is so satisfying in seeing someone have the desire to achieve a goal; to put forth the effort, work, and commitment to reach that goal. When they go on stage, they are in the very best shape they could be at that time, and there is so much satisfaction in that.”

2022 NPC Texas Classic

On August 16, 2022, Chase Mackey competed in the NPC 2022 Texas Classic. Chase placed 5th in Men’s Classic Physique – Open Class B.

Message from Mackey:

“Initially I was pretty upset with 5th place and felt as if I deserved a higher placing. Now after looking back on all the footage, I can see why the judges made the decision that they did and feel as if I was placed correctly. Still waiting on judges’ feedback, and all the HD stage shots/videos.

At the end of the day this was still a huge W for me. I was only 172lbs at my last show in April 2021. Stepped on stage at 194lbs for this show August 2022. My conditioning was at least as good if not better. That is 22lbs of lean muscle tissue gained in only 16 months…😳… 100% completely self-coached through it all. Now that is a major accomplishment that I am very happy about.”

2022 NPC Dallas Championships

Congratulations to Veronica Kriethe!! Veronica recently competed on June 18th in the NPC Dallas Championships. She placed 1st in Figure Division, Novice Class B. In Veronica’s own words, “I am definitely happy with the package I presented, I know where I’ve been & know where I am going.”

We first met Veronica and Joe last year at our posing clinic. Since then, we have become friends. Veronica has been gracious enough to allow us to share her story. “I started losing weight in 2014 after being my highest weight of 289, I started lifting & eating to build soon after. I wanted to compete as soon as I saw a couple of Granbury women doing it, it’s my only addiction, once I saw the discipline it takes. I was hooked, I took on the challenge.”

Mark and I hope everyone will take the opportunity to congratulate Veronica on her overall success with physical wellbeing and individual accomplishment of successfully competing as an NPC athlete!
